When using Foundation, you have the option to register a Recovery Device. A Recovery Device ensures you can regain control of your account securely without needing to go through support. It is an important step for protecting your access.
Note: The only devices that are currently compatible with Foundation are the YubiKey 5C NFC, YubiKey 5 NFC, and the YubiKey 5C.
How to Add a Recovery Device
Follow the steps below to register your YubiKey as a Recovery Device:
Open the Foundation app on your phone.
Navigate to the Devices tab.
Tap on Add Recovery Device.
Enter the PIN for your YubiKey.
If you haven’t set a PIN yet, you’ll need to download the YubiKey Authenticator app from Yubico's website or your app store. From there, you can create and manage your PIN.
After entering your PIN, you’ll be prompted to use your YubiKey.
Tap your YubiKey against your phone’s NFC reader (usually located near the top of the device). If you are using an Android device you can also insert the YubiKey into the USB slot.
If you are on an Android device, you are able to use either the NFC reader, or you can plug in the YubiKey in the USB slot.
Once your phone successfully reads the YubiKey, your Recovery Device will be registered, and you’ll see a confirmation in the app.
Please Note: If you are recovering your account from an Android device to an iPhone, you must use an NFC YubiKey, as iOS only supports NFC YubiKey at this time.
