Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Foundation?

    • Foundation is a secure mobile app that helps you back up your crypto wallets, recover access if something goes wrong, and pass your assets on to someone you trust. It is designed to eliminate single points of failure without compromising on security. There is no password reset in crypto. If you lose your seed phrase or your phone, or something happens to you, your assets are gone. Foundation exists so that never happens.

  • What is legacy account transfer

    • Legacy Transfer lets you designate someone to take control of your account if you're inactive for an extended period. It's a secure handoff — triggered only if you disappear and pre-approved by you.

  • Does Foundation ever have access to my seed phrase?

    • No. Your seed phrase is encrypted and decrypted only on your mobile device using the device’s secure enclave. The Foundation service never sees, stores, or transmits it — not during backup, recovery, or at any time.

  • What if Foundation is compromised?

    • Even if breached, no secrets are exposed — Foundation only stores encrypted data. Decryption requires your device, biometric, and MFA. And a breach is unlikely: Foundation is built on Station70 infrastructure trusted by Magic Eden, Castle Island Ventures, and CoinShares.

  • Which wallets can I back up?

    • Foundation supports 12- and 24-word seed phrases from hot or cold wallets — including Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask, Ledger, OKX, Phantom, Rabby, Rainbow, and Trust. It’s chain-agnostic and works with any BIP-39–compatible wallet. Foundation even lets you back up multiple wallets, each encrypted separately and organized in your personal vault. You stay in control of every key.

  • What happens if I lose my phone?

    • You can recover your encrypted vault from Foundation servers, but this requires MFA-authenticated access to your Foundation account and a registered recovery method — like a second mobile device or a hardware-based passkey like a Yubikey.

  • Can I update my recovery methods later?

    • Yes. You can add, remove, or replace recovery methods at any time — including new devices or hardware tokens. Changes require MFA, access to your Foundation account, and possession of your mobile device.

Can I remove a Device from my account?

  • Yes. You can remove a device from your account by going to the Device tab and select the device you want to remove. After you click on the device you will be taken to a new screen. This screen will display information about the device. Click on Delete Recovery Device and the device will be removed.

    • Please note: You can't remove a device that you are actively using.
